Creating Abundance Intro
I have a passion for helping others learn the spiritual laws and principles of the Universe for creating abundance and in particular financial abundance. I was fortunate in my life to come across these laws and principles when I was turning 30.
Many years later, oh, about 22 years later, I had the opportunity to lead a small group of women in learning these concepts for manifesting abundance in their lives. From that experience I was motivated to study the specific topic of psychology and abundance.
Following my graduation with a Master of Arts Degree, I created my business, Rites of Abundance, and developed an Abundance Course that I teach and that is available on my website. As I became aware of technology, I taught this course using teleconferencing. Through another technology, the internet and blogging, I am able to teach you how to manifest your desires.
So, this blog is for you!
You can start reading at any point because all of the information is important, but in order to start at the beginning you have to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on older posts. As my entries grow you might even have to click multiply times to find the first posts. Stick with it…if creating abundance is your desire, it will be worth your time and energy!
Quick Ways to Make Money – Don’t Become Confused
Are quick ways to make money the best approach to making money? You certainly can find opportunities that promise you a way to make money quickly. You might even come across legitimate ways to make money quickly, but you also have to ask yourself if these ways will be lasting or a flash in the pan.
For instance, many network marketing businesses offer quick ways to make money. You’ve probably heard the ‘get 4, who get 4, who get 4’ technique that promises a residual income for life. It really sounds good when it’s presented. I know first hand, because I bought into the theory myself on more than one occasion. It sounds so good that it’s hard to resist.
To make it even simpler, sometimes people will use 3 people or even 2 people instead of 4. The presentation of this idea is such that you’re made to think that people are just waiting by their phone to hear from you and get started. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Your family and friends cringe when they hear that pitch. They may be polite but for sure they are not listening. They are doing the time until you finish so they can change the subject or find the nearest exit.
If you’re the kind of person who is a hard worker, it’s difficult to imagine that you can’t find 4 other people like yourself who will understand the value of this system. You’re willing to work day and night with them so that they will be as successful as you.
It’s surprising when the reality sinks in that signing up 4 people is not quick in real life. Even if you are fortunate enough to fill the first tier, what about the 2nd level and how about the 3rd level and so on?
Quick is often thought of as the equivalent of easy. If we stick with the same example, nothing could be farther from the truth. Network Marketing is not easy. It may be enjoyable. It may be a passion. It may even provide an important service, but it is not easy. Run as quickly as you can if a person is making you that promise.
Another fallacy is that the 4 people you enroll will stay the course or their people will stay the course. Enthusiasm is contagious in the beginning, but not nearly as easy to sustain when negativity or defeatism sets in. Once people begin to feel that their efforts are not getting quick results and that it takes persistent energy, they begin to lose interest and then the momentum winds down. Before you know it they’re gone.
Okay, that’s the argument for changing your mindset from quick to lasting. In my next post I’ll write about the benefits of creating a lasting way to make money. Until then, remember…

Quick Ways to Make Money
One of the most important elements of using quick ways to make money is about beliefs and belief systems. So, the first question we must ask ourselves is… what is our belief about quickly making money? Do we think it is possible? Is it possible others? Is it possible for us?
Our programming is probably that one must work hard to make money. Working hard is usually a long process. So, naturally, quick ways of making money sounds contradictory. If it’s quick, obviously it can’t be long and that doesn’t equate to a work hard ethic. Can you relate to any of this?
Quick might also be associated with a scheme. What are the messages we’ve heard around schemes? For starters they are not legitimate. Well, we don’t want to be linked with illegitimate ways of making money. After all, our reputation is at stake.
Now that we’ve identified several beliefs we may be harboring, how do we change that? It’s really an easy and quick process to begin with although it will take our attention to maintain. We turn the old belief around 180 degrees. We make the idea of quick a positive. We make easy a positive. How do we do that? We look at ways in other areas of our life when quick was or is a positive.
How about when we get in our car to drive to an appointment. Do we look for the longest or quickest route? Do we ask ourselves how can we make this the hardest drive possible? Of course not. In many situations quick is equated with efficient.
So let’s apply that thinking to our belief about ways to make money.
Scheme is a word that really represents a plan of action. Somehow it has become a negative, but all good ideas require a plan. So why does a quick plan have to be a negative? When we start to plan a vacation, do we say to ourselves, let me make the planning of my vacation as long and arduous as I possibly can? Of course not. So, let’s look at quick ways to make money as a a quick plan.
Now that we’ve examined our beliefs about making money quickly and turned our thinking around so that we view it in a positive light, we can move forward with any idea to make money whether it is quick and easy or takes more time and effort.

Creating Abundance with Goals
So far in this series of posts I’ve covered principles, purpose, mission statement and desires. In creating abundance each one is building on the previous one. I know that the first three require some hard work, but listing your desires should have been pure fun.
Do you know the difference between a desire and a goal? You’re absolutely right…a goal is a desire that has a date attached to it. Otherwise, the desire remains a desire or a dream. With a time frame attached to the desire you have a clear objective to move toward.
The next step in this process is reviewing your goals – the ones that met the criteria of something you truly desire, is enough, is within your human possibility, and does not contradict any other item on your list. You also put a dollar value on each desire.
With those details you can turn your desires into goals. Two qualities necessary for your goals are detail and clarity. Let me give you an example.
Your desire is to travel. You pack your bags and arrive at the airport. You walk up to the ticket counter to buy a ticket. The first question the attendant asks is, Where do you want to go? Hmmm…you don’t know.
You have to know where you want to go if you’re going to buy a ticket. Let’s say money is no object. Still you have to know where you’re going. What if where you want to go doesn’t have an airport but only a train station? What if you packed North Pole clothes and you’re going to the tropics?
I’m sure you get the idea. So desiring to travel must be clarified with details…where you’re going, how you’re getting there, what time of year, what activities you’ll do once you’re there, etc.
The more clarity you have and the more details you envision the easier the next step will be. That step is creating your plan of action. I’ll cover that in the next post. Until then, remember…

Creating Abundance and Identifying Your Desires
In the last three posts, I have written about principles, purpose and mission statement. Now we’re ready to move forward with desires. In creating abundance knowing your desires is imperative. Otherwise, how will you manifest them?
This activity is going to be lots of fun. This is when you turn your dreams into concrete ideas. For some, this will be an easy activity, but for others those dreams have been so stifled that you have to go on an archeological dig to find them. But they do exist.
If you’re in the first group, who has an easy time identifying your desires, then all you have to do is grab a paper and pen or your computer and go for it. List all of your desires big and small. Let freedom reign. What do I mean by that? Do away with judgment. There will be plenty of time to evaluate your list, but for now have a blast and list everything you’ve ever desired.
For those who fall into the second group, who struggle for whatever reason with identifying your desires, be gentle with yourself and give yourself time. You might want to take a few days or even a week to do this activity. Perhaps you need to begin by going back to your childhood or teen years to remember the things you dreamed about.
Oh, remember that this list of desires isn’t just about material possessions although those are to be included, but also include desires like getting a degree, the hobby you’ve put off, learning a language, acquiring a new skill or deepening one you already have, joining a group or guild, traveling, etc.
Does the issue of self worth come up for you? Are you feeling that you don’t deserve what’s on your list? If so, your new mantra is, “I deserve (fill in the blank) just because.” The just because is just because you exist. You are a child of God and need no other reasons for your desires. Perhaps, I need to add a caution…as long as your desires do not harm another.
Now that you have your list, you are going to go over each item and ask yourself if you truly desire it. Imagine your life with that particular thing or item. How does it make you feel? If you honestly feel that it enhances your life then it stays on the list. If not, simply eliminate it. No harm, no foul. You get to do the editing.
Three other questions to ask yourself about each item are: Is it enough; is it within your human possibility; and does it contradict any other item on your list?
Next you will put a dollar amount next to each item. You’re preparing for the next step. Next week I’ll be writing about goals. Until then, remember…

Creating Abundance with Your Personal Mission Statement
Now that you’ve spent time thinking about your principles and purpose you’re ready to begin writing your personal mission statement. You might be asking, “What is a mission statement?” It is the blending of your principles and purpose into a statement that describes your life now or in the future. However, it’s important to write the statement in the present tense as if it already is so.
There are some guidelines that will be helpful in this process. You can use whatever writing style feels most comfortable. You can make your statement using bullet points, prose as in a story, hand drawn pictures or photos. Whatever works for you to get your thoughts and feelings down on paper is perfect. This is your mission statement so be creative. No one has to see it unless you decide to share it.
Ultimately, you’ll want to create a short version…one that is summarized in a sentence or two. With this concise version you can write it on an index card and carry it with you or memorize it.
Do mission statements change? Sometimes, but typically they don’t unless you have a big revelation. For instance I was reading Tad Crawford’s The Money Mentor. This is a fictional account of a young woman whose life is a mess because of an accumulation of debt. At the beginning of the story she is rooming with two other women and also has a love interest. One common element of these four people is their love of dancing…they all aspire to be professional dancers. By the end of the story her wanna be love has an accident and decides that he really isn’t interested in being a dancer. He chooses to go back to school for a law degree. The same thing happens with one of her roomies when she realizes she no longer wants to struggle financially to be an artist. Instead she decides to return to school to earn a degree in business. In both cases, a big shift was made and therefore had they written their personal mission statements, a rewrite would be a must.
There is no judgment of right or wrong, good or bad to be made about making a change. People change and their personal missions change, but for the most part a personal mission often stays true to its original intent.
I’ll use another example. Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, spent 20 years of his life researching, writing and perfecting a philosophy of success based on the knowledge and wisdom of the wealthiest men of his time. He withstood criticism and ridicule from family and friends during those years; however, he remained true to his mission.
Where did he draw his strength from? Good question! His mentor was Andrew Carnegie, who made him the following proposition. If Hill would agree to dedicate the many years that Carnegie knew it would take to do the work and do it without compensation, Carnegie would open the doors and minds of these wealthy men.
Hill drew his strength from a decision he made and a conviction of the importance of his purpose. His journey wasn’t easy as he met many challenges along the way, but within his heart he heard the wise words of his mentor. You have access to those words in Think and Grow Rich. In addition if you visit my website, www.ritesofabundance.com, you can follow my blog as I reread Think and Grow Rich and an accompanying Workbook.
In your journey of creating abundance having a clear and concise personal mission statement is a foundation, a starting point. It then becomes a bench mark for your actions and a great reference point or compass for your life. An annual review of your statement is also a wise action.
In my next blog I’ll write about desires. Until then, remember…

Creating Abundance and Spiritual Economics
This post is an “extra.” It’s 12:38 AM and I am reading in Spiritual Economics. I had to share this quote…
“It could be said that when you realize your relationship to the dynamic Universe, you are forever in a field where you could drill for oil and bring in a gusher every time.”
Sweet dreams and remember…

Creating Abundance and Purpose
This is the 2nd of a series of 6 posts. The first was about creating abundance and principles. Now that you’ve identified your principles you’re ready to focus on your life purpose.
Do you already know what your purpose is? Fantastic. If not, no problem. You have all the time in the world or should I say Universe to decide. The Aborigines have a saying…How long is forever? The idea is that there is no pressure on the length of time to know your purpose.
I am intentionally using the word decide. I didn’t write figure it out. I didn’t write discover. I didn’t write stumble upon. I could have used those words, because they could be a part of the process. However, the reason I didn’t is because having a purpose is ultimately a decision and most importantly it is your decision. I often hear people talk about their life purpose as if there’s a line you get in where life purposes are handed out. That’s not my take on life purpose. For me, it is truly a personally matter and one where we have to take responsibility with a choice.
Some questions you can ask yourself in the process of deciding would be the following. What makes my heart sing? What would I do even if I do not get paid to do it? What would make me jump out of bed in the morning because I can’t wait to do it? What might wake me up in the middle of the night with an idea?
When you know your life purpose you have a feeling within your heart or Being that you are on target. Could be that others have given you their interpretation or directive of how your life should look. Could be that you have given your power away by asking others what your purpose should be.
I made that mistake. After graduating from high school I really didn’t know what I wanted to be or do. So, I asked my parents and my finance and they said I should become a teacher, which led me to getting a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Was my heart in it? Nope. The one course that brought me joy was a children’s literature class. Perhaps, library science would have been more on track for me. All I know is I didn’t follow my heart. I never taught in a formal setting but basically I’ve been teaching all of my life. Sharing knowledge with others is what makes my heart sing! Teaching is one of my life purposes.
In the process of deciding on your life purpose, look at whether your purpose lines up with your principles. An exaggerated example would be valuing the principle of peace and deciding on a purpose of soldiering. On the surface those two don’t line up, but as I recently discovered those two can co-exist depending on how one goes about creating peace. Now if your principle is pacifism it might not work at all.
The next step will be to create a personal mission statement. Until then, remember…

Creating Abundance and Principles
This post will be the first of a series of 6 and the subject matter is all related to creating abundance. Big surprise, right? In previous posts I’ve covered all kinds of topics and they all had to do with creating abundance. So, what is different and why is this a series of 6?
Let me outline the headings and you’ll begin to see the picture. Drum roll, please! They are: principles, purpose, personal mission statement, desires, goals and action.
In order to create what we desire we have to have a starting point. We could just pick something we desire but would it truly give us the joy and satisfaction we desire if that something isn’t aligned with our principles? Probably not.
Does our purpose line up with our principles? And then, principles and purpose naturally lead to our personal mission statement. Now we’re half way home. As we move into discovering and naming our desires we can create goals, and a plan of action naturally unfolds from there.
So, today’s post is on principles. One of the greatest advocates of principles that I know of is Stephen Covey. Covey is the author of the best seller, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Although he’s written other best sellers, The 7 Habits is the foundation of his life philosophy.
In a nutshell, Covey believes that the importance of principles is in their timeless value. What do I mean by that? Principles are fundamental guidelines for human behavior. An example will help us here. Some principles that fill this description are love, excellence, dignity, potential. Principles are the qualities we choose to live by. It’s easy to confuse them with values or practices but those are different, because they change with time and situations.
It would be easy to write about the principle of love because in my belief system love is at the heart of everything…a principle integral to all life. Instead let me write about the principle of potential. Potential is the latent power inside each of us to be the fullness of who we are. This reminds me of a Maryanne Williamson’s quote, “Playing small doesn’t serve the world.”
There is within each of us a seed of greatness waiting even longing to come out. This seed of potential requires nurturing to come forth. As a tender sprout it needs care, but over time will grow strong and resilient. The principle of potential as other principles is never changing. No matter who tries to annihilate it, it still exits. Even in a concentration camp, the light within Viktor Frankl could not be snuffed out. He survived to write Man’s Search for Meaning, known as one of the ten most influential books in US history. He went on to create logotherapy and was a great addition to humanity as he fulfilled his potential.
Principles are the starting point in our process of creating abundance. Reflecting on the principles that are important to you will be your starting point. In the next blog post I’ll write about purpose. Until then, remember…

Creating Abundance and Attitude
If you’ve been reading my blogs from the beginning you know I already made one post about attitude. Think it’s time to write about it again. Attitude is everything when it comes to creating abundance.
In today’s environment, it’s easy to fall into the trap of doomsday. After all, every where you turn there is negative news…on the TV, over the radio, in the newspapers, conversation around the water cooler. Do people still have conversations around a water cooler?
Just the other day I heard someone make a sweeping generalization about how you can’t make money today. Excuse me. People make money every day and always have in every time frame. There are always entrepreneurs making money even in times of economic challenges.
When freedoms are removed by the government, resourceful people find a way. In our country let’s use the example of Prohibition. When alcohol became illegal, drinking didn’t go away. Bootlegging became a new industry and people made money. Today, drugs such as marijuana and cocaine are illegal, but there is a huge market with individuals making money.
I’m not advocating illegal activities. Rather I’m making the point that people make money in good times and bad. Let’s use the stock market as another example. During the most recent dot.com bubble and following market downturn, many folks made money because they had the insight that the bubble would burst and took advantage of it.
Attitudes and belief systems are closely linked together. You could say that people often have negative attitudes based on a disempowering belief. The woman I was talking to had a negative attitude based on her beliefs and perception that no one is currently making money. Businesses are making money. Perhaps not as much as in the past but still they are in positive cash flow.
It’s easy to make sweeping generalizations but it doesn’t serve us. Where is the power in that? A famous biblical saying is “This too shall pass.” The importance of this saying is that all things move in cycles. What goes up must come down, but it will rise again.
What are you believing? Where are you putting your attention? What is your attitude? If it is anything less than in a positive direction, make a shift! Choose beliefs and attitudes that empower you! And remember…
